Years ago, I stopped by Mono lake on a family road trip. It made a strong impression. I decided to return on a long weekend roadtrip - it was only about a 6 hour drive from my house. It was a really nice trip. The shortest route to Mono lake from the Bay area goes through Yosimite, but I didn’t have an entry permit, so I went the long way around.
